About The Founder
Kennedy R. Zachery
Kennedy Zachery, a native of Powder Springs, Georgia, is a passionate social worker, advocate, and founder of Pop Up and Serve Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting unhoused women and children. Driven by her faith and a deep sense of purpose, Kennedy believes that everyone deserves hope, joy, and the opportunity to experience God’s goodness.
Her passion for service took shape at The University of Alabama, where she earned her Bachelor of Social Work in 2023 and later her Master of Social Work in 2024. As a student, Kennedy led initiatives through programs like Al’s Pals and Serving Bama, creating service opportunities that impacted hundreds of students and community members.
During her senior year, Kennedy interned at Turning Point, a local domestic violence shelter in Tuscaloosa, where she worked directly with survivors. The experience profoundly impacted her, teaching her the importance of providing both immediate resources and long-term support to women and children. Witnessing the resilience of the women she served ignited her passion for advocacy and strengthened her desire to address the systemic barriers they face. It was at Turning Point that Kennedy’s vision for future community-based projects began to take shape.
As a Resident Assistant, Kennedy launched the Help a Sister Out initiative, collecting toiletries for Turning Point . What started as a small dorm-room project quickly grew into a broader mission to meet the immediate needs of women in crisis. Kennedy expanded the initiative during her graduate studies by raising $2,000 to support two women’s shelters in Washington, D.C., while completing her field placement internship on Capitol Hill.
Inspired by her academic and professional experiences, Kennedy founded Pop Up and Serve Inc. in the fall of 2024. Through purpose-driven projects like Help a Sister Out, the organization provides essential resources and support to women and children, empowering them to move forward with strength and renewed hope. With Psalms 27:13 at the heart of her mission, Kennedy works to bring hope, joy, and lasting change to the lives of women and children, one project at a time.
